As Seachem Prime neutralises chlorine and chloramines, ammonia is formed as a side product, this happens with all dechlorinators. Prime has a unique benefit in that it neutralises the ammonia, but crucially, leaves it available for the tank bacteria to digest.
Also present in tap water are any number of highly toxic heavy metals, which Prime detoxifies and leaves them completely safe.Seachem Prime is non-acidic and will not change the pH
When used during water changes on established tanks, it's unique formula also helps in the reduction of nitrates, often a common problem on older tanks and increasingly a problem in some water areas, even for new systems.
If Seachem prime isused in a marine system, it will not cause the skimmer to either over produce foam or stop the skimming process, a critical factor to take into account for marine use.
The inclusion of essential ions within the formula will naturally encourage the fish to produce excess slime coating, it doesn't simply 'add a coating' to the fish, rather it boosts the fishes own natural defences.
Seachem Prime : dechlorinator, chloramine remover(via breaking the chloramine bond), ammonia detoxifier (but allowing the filter to consume the ammonia, so removing it), binds heavy metals, increases the fishes slime coat, helps with the removal of nitrate, safe for marine use.
