Description
Limnobium laevigatum, widely known as "Amazon Frogbit," is a highly popular and decorative floating plant from South America. It resembles a larger version of duckweed but is much easier to control in the aquarium. Its round, smooth, bright green leaves provide excellent shade for the aquarium inhabitants, making it perfect for shy fish like Bettas or Gouramis that prefer calmer, dimmer environments.
One of its best features is its long, fine root system, which hangs down into the water column. These roots not only look beautiful and natural but also provide a safe hiding place for shrimp and fry. Furthermore, it is a fast grower that eagerly absorbs excess nutrients (like nitrates) from the water, making it a powerful natural tool for preventing algae growth.
