Seachem Matrix™ High Porosity Bio Media – Advanced Biological Filter Media for Aquariums

Seachem Matrix™ is a premium high-porosity biological filtration media designed to provide superior biofiltration and efficient removal of harmful nitrogenous waste in freshwater and marine aquariums. Engineered for maximum performance, Matrix™ supports the growth of beneficial bacteria that naturally break down ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate, helping maintain a healthy and stable aquatic environment.

Each piece of Matrix™ is a highly porous inorganic solid, approximately 10 mm in diameter, offering an exceptionally large surface area. One litre of Matrix™ provides over 700 m² of biological surface area, equivalent to approximately 170 litres of traditional plastic bio balls, making it one of the most efficient biological media available.

Unlike standard plastic biomedia that only provide external surface area, Matrix™ features both external and internal macroporous structures. These pores are perfectly sized to support both nitrifying and denitrifying bacteria, allowing simultaneous removal of ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate within the same filter system.

Matrix™ is completely inert, meaning it will not alter water chemistry or degrade over time. Because most beneficial bacteria colonise inside the media, it can be safely rinsed during maintenance without disrupting biological filtration.
